Mine was gray as pictured, not dark purple. I assume the other reviewer was sent the wrong item. The color is good- unfortunately it needs a light wash before use (I always like using them prior to washing, since it's my only real wrinkle free time) because it is a bit stinky right out of the bag. It looks good, and the side that touches you is very soft- but different from the outer side which is not very soft.
It's a good value, but not a spectacular one. I find that even though I enjoy buying most things on Amazon - for quality linens for incredible prices, it seems better just to stop off at a Ross or TJ Maxx and grab a sheet set or comforter.
I live in Central Texas, and it is of a good weight for a 72 degree house.
EDIT: After two months of use, this comforter is really kind of ratty. It runs really easily and has lots of bits of thread sticking out of it. If you didn't have cats or dogs it might be OK, but it has fallen apart for me, unfortunately. :(
